Cortona Mix Festival 2013

The Cortona Mix Festival was born in 2012 when the Feltrinelli Group and the City of Cortona met and decided to create an appointment to promote the mixture of arts, their bounty and variety, their ability to continuously invent new suggestions.

From Saturday 27th July to Sunday 4th August, with a preview on the 26th July, Cortona tranforms into an experimental workshop for the second edition of the Festival. One, one hundred, one thousand paths intersect, develop and intertwine in the streets, squares and theatres of Cortona – with concerts, shows, performances, dialogues, presentations with Italian and international guests, in which music and literature, cinema and theatre, dance and dj sets, journalism and non-fiction writing, enogastronomy and society are the protagonists of a transversal panorama, built on the basis of debate, curiosity, on the balance between quiet reflection and entertainment. From the shows in the evenings to The Mix Show section (each evening a concert, a representation, a party) to the distinguished reflections of The Cortona Meetings (ideally the continuation to the Cortona dialogues promoted by The Giangiacomo Feltrinelli Foun dation since 1986), from the cultural kaleidoscope of The Mix Cocktail (where we move in the fields of cinema, football, contemporary art, philosophy and much more) to the documentaries in Visions (with laeffe Film Festival, a cycle of night-time projections at the Signorelli Theatre, curated by the new television channel laeffe, the Cortona Mix Festival’s media partner).

The magnificent backdrop of the Tuscan city and its symbols form the Festival’s backdrop – Palazzo Casali, the Sant’Agostino Centre, Piazza Signorelli, the Signorelli Theatre, the MAEC (The Etruscan Academy Museum of the City of Cortona) – but the whole region is also valorised, with its production of enogastronomic excellences (with guided tours in the territory’s wine producers and the CORTONA DOC dinners in the Piazza).

The Cortona Mix Festival also presents Mix Prize, a prize for the best book published in Italy in the 2012-2013 season, in a new formula: a list of ten books, published here in the Mix Prize section, and drawn up based on a selection of the Scelti per voi (chosen for you) suggestions from the Feltrinelli booksellers from throughout Italy. Users can vote for their favourite book and the winner will receive his/her prize in Cortona. Another confirmation is the festival’s official Bookshop, set up inside the MAEC and open from the 27th July to the 18th August.
