The book mixes the American loser mythology with the characteristics of the great Italian social melodrama. While we await its official publication, next September, in the “I Narratori” Feltrinelli imprint, the young author compares her dreams and hopes as a debutant writer with those of the well-known author, Mario Desiati, who is also the editorial director of Fandango Libri.

THE MIX COCKTAIL
I’m not ashamed but I am indignant
With Gabriella Turnaturi, Remo Bodei, Armando Massarenti
In our society, marked by the cult of spectacularisation and hyper-individualism, shame and indignation have lost their original semantic connotations and have become easy insults to be used against political, economic or sporting opponents. Gabriella Turnaturi, author of Vergogna (Shame), recently released by Feltrinelli, Remo Bodei, author of Ira. La passione furiosa. I 7 vizi capitali, Il Mulino (Ire. The furious passion. The 7 capital sins) and Armando Massarenti, author of Perché pagare le tangenti è razionale ma non vi conviene, Guanda (Why paying bribes is rational, but it isn’t worth it) invite us to rediscover the positive use of emotions in society.

07:30 PM, Centro Sant’Agostino
THE MIX COCKTAIL
Women’s words, men’s silence
With Marcela Serrano and Iaia Caputo, presented by Alessandra Tedesco
Women have always been enthusiasts of words of love and have guaranteed for centuries the civilization of affections and the sentimental education of their men. Men, on the other hand, so expert in public words, have hidden their fragility behind the silence of intimacy. But today, now that places and roles are confused and in continuous transformation, is that still the case? Or can it only be like that? Two female writers discuss the male and female question with two points of view from two opposite sides of the world, presented by the journalist of Radio 24 Alessandra Tedesco.

Art according to Leo
With Annie Cohen-Solal and Marco Pacioni.

The French academic and writer Annie Cohen-Solal (author of the biography Leo & C.) speaks about his activity with Marco Pacioni, a journalist and Italian literature lecturer at Georgia University.

THE CORTONA MEETINGS
Someone who passes by behind the harvesters.
Meeting a storyteller with Erri De Luca
Erri De Luca has drawn with his tales a panorama of emotions that are very close to his biography: his education in Naples, the sea of Ischia, his political militancy and the mountain. He has translated the Bible from ancient Hebrew, written for the theatre and for the cinema. Here he tells his story in what he calls “chit-chat”.

09:30 PM, Piazza Signorelli
THE MIX SHOW
Concert by the Banda Improvvisa

The cut-tuk show
With and by Martina Cortellazzo
What unites everyday and prosaic movements between pots and pans and the more abstract and poetic movements of dancing? The answer is simple: a recipe. Which is what the cook-ballerina Martina Cortellazzo will show us, in an event that starts out with the preparation of chicken marinated in prunes and ginger and end up with the liberation of the body and soul through dancing. With the artistic consultancy of Giovanna Scardoni and music by Nicola Conte and Cristiano Malgioglio.

THE CORTONA MEETINGS
The work of the future/The future of work With Elsa Fornero
The two will discuss the challenges, the critical points and the opportunities of the job market in a historic moment in which the work market is suffering the combined pressures of globalisation, the crisis and change. What are the possibilities for the future? Which paths should we go down and which should we avoid? How can we make the reinforcement of the dignity and value of work coincide with the revival and innovation of the country? In Cortona a meeting with the Minister for Employment and Social Politics Elsa Fornero, interviewed by the director of RAI Radio 3 Marino Sinibaldi. The meeting is promoted by the Giangiacomo Feltrinelli Foundation.

Musical pieces by Didie Caria, directed by Roberto Tarasco A show that is loosely based on Sophocle’s Antigone (and its rewriting by Ali Smith), published in the series Save the Story by Scuola Holden-Gruppo L’Espresso. In between the words, sounds and images, with Didie Caria’s musical interventions and Roberto Tarasco’s direction, the actress offers a female voice – that is strong, resolute and rebellious – against the “tyranny” of law and male power.

09:30 PM, Piazza Signorelli
THE MIX SHOW
Gypsy rock:
Emir Kusturica & The No Smoking Orchestra in concert

Emir Kusturica’s cinema career certainly doesn’t need any presentations. From Cannes to Venice, from Underground to Black cat, white cat, his films have garnered both commercial and critical success. However, not everybody knows that at the same time as working at his film career, the Serbian director also has a musical career, as the guitarist of the The No Smoking Orchestra. A high volume trip, that begins at the dawn of the ‘80’s and will see a new stage in Piazza Signorelli with its mixture of sounds: rock, punk and gypsy rhythms..

A soap opera in the sun: The “Beautiful Country” between fiction and reality
With Fabio Sabbioni, Francesco Pinto, Francesco Nardella Sixteen seasons and more than three thousand five hundred episodes. These are the extraordinary numbers of Un posto al sole (A place in the sun), the television series that since 1996 has given us a cross-section of our country, mixing reality with fiction, current affairs with storytelling, passions and feelings. A successful experience, unique in the national television panorama, which will be spoken about in Cortona by some of its most hidden artificers: the creative producer, the director of the production centre, the department head of Rai Fiction.

06:00 PM, Palazzo Casali
LOOKING AHEAD
An idea of advertising
With Giuseppe Mazza and Riccardo Staglianò
How many things are said and how many things are really known about advertising? Can we imagine new directions – in languages, creativity, communication – for the Italian market as well? The answers will come in a two-sided meeting that will begin with the screening of the documentary Art & Copy and will be followed by a meeting in which the creative director of the Tita agency Giuseppe Mazza and the journalist Riccardo Staglianò will reflect on the state of the art of advertising. What we have and what we could have.

THE CORTONA MEETINGS
Smart city and augmented realities
With Luca Toschi
The president of the degree in Theories of Communication at the Florence University, Luca Toschi accompanies us in an exploration of how techonology – web, smartphone, tablet – acts on the functions of memory, knowledge and communication, modifying our relationship with the territory and creating new stimuli for freedom and participation. In between the re-evaluation of human capital and the revolution of knowledge, are our cities becoming “smarter”?

09:30 PM, Piazza Signorelli
THE MIX SHOW
Between classical and jazz: Stefano Bollani in concert with the Orchestra della Toscana conducted by Daniel Kawka

In Cortona he is the protagonist of a new meeting. After a solo improvisation at the piano he will then be accompanied by the Orchestra della Toscana conducted by its main conductor Daniel Kawka in a version for piano and orchestra of Rhapsody in blue by George Gershwin and in the symphonic suite Shéhérazade by Rimskij-Korsakov.

THE MIX COCKTAIL
Politics according to Fellini with Andrea Minuz and Fabio Benincasa
For many years Federico Fellini had a vivacious correspondence with Giulio Andreotti. And with the film Prova d’orchestra he managed to sow doubts in the movement of Lotta continua. There are two anecdotes in Viaggio al termine dell’Italia. Fellini politico (A trip to the edge of Italy. Fellini the politician), Andrea Minuz’s latest book in which he describes Fellini’s trip in the Italian cultural subconscious. A political analysis of the life and works of the master from Rimini, which the author discusses with Fabio Benincasa, a journalist and expert in Fellini.

07.30 PM, Centro Sant’Agostino
THE MIX READING
Rebellious and solitary. Benni reads Benni with Stefano Benni
A witty and biting commentator of the worlds customs, a fascinating reader of his own texts and others (his Lolita was particularly memorable), Stefano Benni lets us hear the coarseness of his face and gives us the gift, in memory of Antonio Tabucchi, of reading Carlos Drumond de Andrade.

09.30 PM, Teatro Signorelli
THE MIX SHOW
Histoire du Soldat, with the Orchestra della Toscana and Riccardo Massai
Presented for the first time in Lausanne in September 1918, Histoire du Soldat is a chamber piece composed by Igor Stravinskij on a libretto by Charles-Ferdinand Ramuz. A variation on the theme of Faust, with a soldier who barters his violin with the devil in exchange for a mysterious book. The abyss
With Maddalena Crippa and Flavia Gentili
Ancient alchemies, modern technologies. The first are Zeno’s, an imaginary philosopher and scientist from Sixteenth Century Bruges, the protagonist of The abyss by Marguerite Yourcenar. The latter are those that regulate the production of audiobooks, reading tools (or rather, listening tools) that are back in fashion due to the diffusion of smartphones and digital readers. These ingredients will be mixed by the actress Maddalena Crippa, who will read pieces of the novel, and Flavia Gentili from Emons audiolibri.

07:30 PM, Centro Sant’Agostino
THE MIX COCKTAIL
Lives to tell. When our characters choose us With Jonathan Coe and Piersandro Pallavicini
Two authors who owe the magic of their writing to the visible and invisible literary references here converse about the writers who manifestly played a decisive role in their work. What degree of intimacy is the writer with their characters? If these characters have "even" a biography viable in books and documents?
We enter in the workshop of Jonathan Coe and Piersandro Pallavicini.

09:30 PM, Teatro Signorelli
THE MIX SHOW
From Beethoven to Čajkovskij, with the Orchestra della Toscana conducted by Jurai Valcuha and Chloë Hanslip
For their last appointment in its rich week in Cortona, the Orchestra della Toscana will present itself in full formation, with a programme that includes Pëtr Il'ič Čajkovskij’s Concerto for violin and orchestra op. 35 and Ludwig van Beethoven’s Symphony no.5 op. 67. A homage to the romantic tradition, shown through the passion of young interpreters: the 36 year old Slovakian orchestra director Jurai Valcuha (who in 2009 became the main conductor of the RAI National Symphonic Orchestra) and the 24 year old English violinist Chloë Hanslip who is already a star on international stages with her 1737 Guarnieri Del Gesù violin.

Preserving the countryside, preserving memory with Suad Amiry and Maria Luisa Catoni
“What is architecture if not places moulded by our living, the walls that define the course of our steps and that are defined by them?” This is what Suad Amiry writes about ancient Palestinian villages. Starting out from this assumption, the next natural step is to discuss the value of architectonic memory and the wider-ranging theme of the conservation of the countryside. The Palestinian writer and architect discusses these questions with the archaeologist and historian Maria Luisa Catoni.

His writing is what will last the longest. But Antonio Tabucchi sowed other traces of himself that were and still are the boundaries of his life. Traces of passions. Music, cinema, sport, flavours, trips. And a desire for justice. The friends who accompanied his life bear witness to these traces.

09.30 PM, Piazza Signorelli
THE MIX SHOW
